Happy New Year, friends! New year, new you, right? Let’s face it, every January we tell ourselves, “This year will be different. I’ll finally conquer my to-do list, crush my goals, and become the organized powerhouse I know I can be.” And then by February, we’re sipping coffee over our third scroll through TikTok, trying to remember what those goals even were.

Sales Resolution

A Sales Resolution for Better Follow-Up

But this year, I’m genuinely committed to doing things differently—starting with a New Year’s Sales Resolution. What about you? What will you do better or differently in 2025? Let me give you a peek behind the scenes: my big resolution is to nail follow-up. Yup, this sales guru is owning up to the fact that I’ve let things slip in the past. The cobbler’s kids really do have no shoes.

Here’s the tea. We’re pros at helping our clients set up flawless automations and follow-up systems, but… we forget about ourselves. Embarrassing, I know. So, this year I’m making follow-up my top priority. That means no more lost opportunities because I was too busy avoiding phone calls or waiting for my “perfect email reply” inspiration to strike.

The Millennial Approach to Communication

Speaking of phone calls, here’s a little confession: I’m a classic millennial. I love email, texts, and Zoom. But phone calls? Listening to voicemails? Hard pass. The sight of 70 unlistened-to voicemail bubbles doesn’t even faze me anymore. If it’s urgent, text me. If it’s thoughtful, email me. And if it needs my full attention? Sorry, that’ll have to wait until I’m at my laptop. Big kid work deserves a big kid workspace.

A Live Boot Camp Lesson in Follow-Up

Here’s a fun story to really drive this home. During our last public Sales Boot Camp (which, by the way, our next one is January 31—sign up here), I confessed to having a “one that got away” client. This potential gold mine of a client originally reached out to me… wait for it… via a cold call. That’s right—their preferred method of communication was my personal nightmare.

Months passed without me making the dreaded call back. Naturally, the Boot Camp attendees called me out. Before I knew it, I was dialing the number—live, in front of the class. Spoiler alert: I got their voicemail. It wasn’t nearly as horrifying as I’d built it up to be. Did I close the deal? Not yet. But the real win was breaking through my own resistance. Baby steps, right?

The 2025 Master Plan: Proactive Sales

So, here’s my master plan to conquer 2025: I’m building a killer follow-up sequence in HubSpot. It’ll combine calls, emails, and texts to ensure no lead falls through the cracks. My mantra? Proactive sales, not reactive sales. No more cringing at overdue tasks. No more half-baked follow-ups. Just strategic, thoughtful, and timely engagement.

What’s Your Sales Resolution?

And because it’s the season of sharing resolutions, let’s talk about yours. What’s one thing you’re ready to tackle this year? Maybe you’ve been meaning to refine your pitch deck. (Pro tip: stop talking about yourself and focus on your client. They’ve already Googled you anyway.) Or perhaps you need to get braver about asking for the sale. (Remember, “If you don’t A-S-K, you won’t G-E-T”.)
